On October 29, 2025, Qu Siqiu, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Group Corporation, led a delegation to Ningxia Petrochemical Company of China National Petroleum Corporation for a technical exchange seminar. Both sides reached a consensus on cooperation regarding key issues such as optimizing the operation of sulfur recovery units and carrying out rectification and upgrades. Zhao Feng, Party Secretary and Executive Director of Ningxia Petrochemical, Wei Zhizhong, Deputy General Manager, and heads of relevant departments attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Director Qu expressed his gratitude for Ningxia Petrochemical’s long-term trust and support. He emphasized that SUNWAY Chemical has always been focused on technological innovation in the petrochemical environmental protection field and is eager to leverage its professional expertise to help partners overcome production challenges. As a leading enterprise in China’s sulfur recovery sector, the company’s independently developed sulfur recovery technology without an online furnace has reached an internationally advanced level. To date, it has completed the design and general contracting of 240 sulfur recovery units with a total capacity of 12.83 million tons per year, holding a market share exceeding 90% in the coal chemical industry. The “Acid Gas Sulfur Resource Recovery and Tail Gas Purification Ultra-Low Emission Technology” has already passed authoritative industry certification, providing mature technical support for the retrofitting of high-complexity facilities.
As an important base for refined oil products and nitrogen fertilizers in the western region of China, Ningxia Petrochemical’s sulfur recovery unit has long suffered from unstable operation. Despite multiple rounds of rectification efforts, the root causes have yet to be addressed, making it urgently necessary for a professional team to provide a systematic solution. Secretary Zhao Feng pointed out that Ningxia Petrochemical has encountered technical bottlenecks during both the construction and operation of its sulfur recovery unit, and has come to deeply recognize the importance of “specialized equipment requiring a specialized team.” He articulated clear demands for rectification: First, develop two sets of optimization plans—one allowing the unit to remain fully operational and another involving brief shutdowns—second, strengthen the support system by enhancing technical feasibility studies, equipment upgrades, and material supply; the ultimate goal is to ensure stable operation of the unit until the next major overhaul cycle while also meeting the special emission limits stipulated in GB 31570-2015, the Emission Standards for Pollutants from the Petroleum Refining Industry. In response to the operational challenges facing Ningxia Petrochemical’s sulfur recovery unit, Zhang Baoshen, Deputy Chief Process Engineer at SUNWAY Chemical Engineering Company, drew on his many years of industry experience to conduct a professional analysis of the unit’s current operating conditions, thoroughly address technical questions, and offer detailed optimization recommendations. He also indicated that, following a comprehensive assessment and calculation, SUNWAY Chemical Engineering Company will assist Ningxia Petrochemical in precisely identifying the root causes of the problems.
Qu Dong stated that SUNWAY Chemical will establish a dedicated technical team to fully leverage its process advantages and project experience in the sulfur recovery field. By tailoring solutions to the specific production realities of Ningxia Petrochemical, the company will achieve compliance with environmental standards and enhanced efficiency through technological upgrades and equipment optimization—while ensuring continuous production. This collaboration is not only an important step toward deepening cooperation between the two parties but also a vivid demonstration of how technology can empower green development in the petrochemical industry. It will provide an industry benchmark that other refining and chemical enterprises can draw upon to address challenges in the operation and maintenance of environmental protection facilities.
