On August 13, the tail gas and new flare gas hydrogen recovery project of the No. 1 C2 Recovery Unit in the Refining Department of Sinopec Tianjin Branch (hereafter referred to as "Tianjin Petrochemical"), which was wholly contracted by our company under the EPC model, was successfully put into operation at the first attempt.
This project, a key green and environmentally friendly initiative for Tianjin Petrochemical, can recover hydrogen gas with a purity of 99.3% from feedstock gas at a rate of 20,000 Nm³ per hour. It effectively enhances the company’s utilization of hydrogen resources while significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The project employs VSA/VPSA (Vacuum Swing Adsorption/Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption) technology for hydrogen recovery, featuring a design capacity of processing 20,000 Nm³/h of feedstock gas. The company places great emphasis on the project's construction. Since the site groundbreaking on January 3, 2023, the project team has meticulously prepared a construction schedule based on critical milestones, setting clear objectives and control measures for safety, quality, and schedule management. This approach ensures seamless integration between the project’s design phase and its construction process, enabling well-coordinated and efficient coordination across design, procurement, and construction stages. Additionally, it reinforces accountability for both safety and quality, driving continuous improvement in project management and construction efficiency. To guarantee the successful first-time startup of the facility, all parties involved in the project have proactively prepared for operations by completing preliminary tasks according to the established timeline. A dedicated startup plan was developed to steadily advance the process, ultimately ensuring the project achieved a smooth and successful first startup.
The company enjoys a strong cooperative relationship with Tianjin Petrochemical. Over the years, it has successively undertaken several major EPC and design projects for Tianjin Nangang’s 1.2 million tons/year ethylene and downstream high-end new materials industrial cluster project—including the air compressor station unit, the #1 C2 recovery unit’s tail gas and new flare gas hydrogen recovery project in the Refining Department, as well as the newly built 150,000-ton/year sulfur recovery unit and its supporting facilities under the “Oil-to-Chemicals” technology upgrade initiative. Leveraging its strategic location, superior service capabilities, and cutting-edge technical expertise, the company has actively contributed to Tianjin Petrochemical’s ongoing development, from routine technical improvements and upgrades to the comprehensive construction of large-scale projects.
Next, the company will fully cooperate with the workshop to gradually optimize parameters, refine processes, strengthen on-site safety management, and verify instrumentation control parameters—ensuring smooth operation of the facility and helping Tianjin Petrochemical create a model for the harmonious coexistence of industrial and ecological civilizations in this new era. Additionally, the company will take the lead in promoting green, low-carbon development across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
