Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the “Notice on Announcing the List of Shortlisted Entities for the ‘Challenge-Based Recruitment’ Initiative for Key Innovative Projects in Fine Chemicals” (MIIT General Office Letter [2026] No. 303). The project “Key Manufacturing Technology for Cellulose Acetate Butyrate Used in High-Performance Coatings,” led by our company, was successfully selected as a shortlisted candidate under the 2026 “Challenge-Based Recruitment” initiative for key innovative projects in fine chemicals.
Cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) is an indispensable key polymer material in fields such as functional coatings, automotive paints, and specialty inks. For a long time, the core production technologies for this product have been monopolized by foreign companies, leaving the domestic market heavily reliant on imports and exposing the supply chain to “chokepoint” risks. By collaborating with leading domestic research institutions and after years of intensive technological development, Sanwei Chemical has achieved significant breakthroughs in the critical preparation technologies for CAB. This successful bid to take up the challenge marks national recognition of the company’s independent innovation capabilities in the high‑end fine chemical new materials sector, carrying important strategic significance for breaking foreign technology monopolies, ensuring the security of industrial and supply chains, and advancing the domestic substitution of critical materials.
Going forward, the company will rigorously adhere to the requirements outlined in the challenge‑response task book, accelerate the implementation of key project milestones, and strive to complete, on schedule, the construction of a thousand‑ton‑per‑year production line and its industrial‑scale demonstration. This will enable the independent and controllable production of high‑quality CAB products across all grades, thereby contributing threefold strength to the high‑quality development of China’s fine chemicals industry.
